Jitsi Meetings
Jitsi is an end-to-end encrypted video meeting platform that is free to use.
At the moment, there are two options for Jitsi meetings: our global hosted Jitsi or the public Jitsi.
We recommend using our global hosted Jitsi but the instructions below are the same for both.
Creating a new meeting
Create via the UI
Navigate to the Jitsi homepage (linked above) and simply type in a unique meeting name. We recommend using three or four random words for your meeting name to make sure it’s unique.
Create via the URL
Instead of navigating to the UI, you can always also just skip straight to the url. Just append your random words to the end of either meet.organise.earth or meet.jit.si (e.g. meet.organise.earth + uniquemeetingname => meet.organise.earth/uniquemeetingname)
Once you have your meeting URL you can share it with any of your attendees and they will be able to login. There is no password or sign-in required, the security of Jitsi relies on having a unique and long meeting URL.
Features
The above screenshot is marked with the location of screensharing, chat, grid view and the settings menu.
If you would like to password protect your meeting, you can set one by clicking on the “i” icon in the lower right and then selecting “add password”.
Troubleshooting
Unfortunately due to the fact that Jitsi is free and encrypted (more servers == more bandwidth == $$$), you may run into issues where your video or sound has lag. In order to resolve this go to the settings menu and reduce your bandwidth or close out the meeting and rejoin.
